TRAVELING TO GHANA

THE FOLLOWING ARE FOOD FOR THOUGHT

MEDICAL INFORMATION;
Medical supply can be brought with you, as they are often shortage of certain kinds of medications. Malaria Prophylactics is absolutely essential; kindly obtain the necessary information from the Ghanaian embassy before coming to Ghana. Bathing and standing in free flowing water may be subject to certain diseases in Ghana. Bilharzias, parasites are carried by certain fresh water snails, commonly found in rivers. Guinea worm, more usually associated with standing water. River Blindness, is more common in swiftly flowing streams in the Northern Region. Visitors should, therefore, avoid bathing in rivers or lakes. It is not advisable to drink water which has not been boiled or filtered.

CLOTHING
Generally it is informal, and it is advisable to stock up on good quality cotton clothes. The high humidity and high temperatures can make it very uncomfortable to wear either restrictive clothes or artificial fibres. For those stationed in the North of Ghana it is a good idea to bring a few cotton knits, as the range of temperature during the dry season makes it feel very cool at night. In the south this is less necessary, though temperatures will fall during the rainy season. Good quality under-wear and swim wear are virtually impossible to buy locally with the exception of locally make sandals, are also very difficult to purchase and are expensive. Ladies clothes especially those with a local style or material are available in many boutiques, or can be made easily by local dressmakers. Men’s clothing is slightly more of a problem. However, tailors can make almost anything required very quickly. Locally made shirts (Joromi) are particularly popular.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
please note that the voltage rating in the country is from 220 to 240 Volts,equipment with less voltage must come along with step down transformers.

Tension 240 volts 50 Hz.
